But there is another side of agentic commerce that I think deserves more attention.

Commerce agents may also begin acting inside merchant systems.

They could potentially:

  • trigger workflows across multiple commerce platforms

Once agents move from recommendation to action, the operational question changes.

It is no longer only:

What can the AI agent do?

It becomes:

What should the AI agent be allowed to do, under which policies, with whose authority, and with what evidence afterward?

Operational questions include which actions may proceed autonomously, which require approval, how permissions differ from business policy, and how teams audit, contain, and reverse agent actions.
